About the Watch

The DS-2 was launched in 1968 as the successor to the successful DS line, which had been launched in 1959. By then, over 300,000 pieces of the DS had been sold. In addition to the formal innovations, there were also some technical innovations: The crown was newly half-covered and featured a double sealing system. To increase the robustness, the movement fixation was again strengthened with extra strong screws. The floating fixation of the movement by means of a rubber ring was kept. Initially, there were 15 different dial variants. For the case material, you could choose between steel and gold plaque. On the gold plated version, there's a 06 in the reference number instead of the 01. There was also a chronometer version in 18 carat yellow gold (reference 5880 300).

About the Brand

In its 130th year of existence, the sports watch brand has built up a solid international reputation for the highest Swiss quality work. Resistance and reliability are crucial for Certina. The brand already chose the turtle as its personal symbol in the 60s. Even today, its characteristic silhouette can be found on almost every Certina timepiece and in the brand logo. It recalls the extreme resistance that characterizes all Certina watches. 1936 Certina was the first company to produce a digital watch. It was driven by a spring movement. Rotating disks bearing inscribed numbers were used to display the time, instead of hands.
