About the Watch
Always ahead of his time, F.P. Journe masterfully blends tradition, innovation, and modern technology to create a groundbreaking horological concept in his first ladies’ collection. Designed with women in mind, this timepiece features meticulously engineered specifications that deliver a remarkable battery life of 8 to 10 years with regular use, and up to an impressive 18 years in standby mode. After eight years of dedicated development, this innovative movement combines the comfort and performance of an electro-mechanical watch with femininity, elegance, and precision. The “Élégante” offers a unique function allowing time to pause and resume, a feature long desired by watchmakers. This electro-mechanical concept includes a mechanical motion detector on the dial at 4:30. After 35 minutes of inactivity, the “Élégante” enters standby mode to conserve energy, stopping the hands while the microprocessor quietly keeps track of the time. When motion is detected, the hands automatically reset to the correct time, moving along the shortest route, either clockwise or counterclockwise. In the titanium models, the luminescent dial of the “Élégante” evokes the radiant surface of white mother-of-pearl, providing optimal legibility both day and night. At night, the hands trace the hours as if in a shadow theater, ensuring elegance and readability at any hour.
About the Brand
In 1999, François-Paul Journe introduced his vision of contemporary watchmaking with a collection of wristwatches under the F.P. Journe name, featuring the Latin phrase "Invenit et Fecit," meaning "invented and made." This certifies that every watch bearing his name is an entirely original creation, crafted with exceptional skill. Journe had to adapt his bespoke expertise to the industrialization process, meticulously refining every movement he designed so that each component could be manufactured to his exact specifications. Though the creative and intellectual process behind his inventions remained the same as when he was a craftsman, the production now involved more contributors. In 2003, Journe opened his first boutique in Tokyo, Japan, in the Omotesando district, known for its many museums. A Hong Kong boutique followed in 2006, and his first European boutique opened in 2007 in Geneva. Since then, he has expanded globally, including into the United States, while also continuing to win numerous watchmaking awards and develop new timepieces. In 2018, Chanel acquired a minority stake in F.P. Journe, owning approximately 20% of the brand.
