About the Watch
The Omega Speedmaster is an iconic timepiece that has stood the test of time and continues to gain further acclaim. Its history is also fascinating. Originally created in 1957 as a timekeeper for motorsport or other sporting events, the Speedmaster was not intended for use on the Moon. Omega's lineup at the time included the Seamaster and Railmaster, as well as the Speedmaster. However, the Speedmaster quickly gained popularity due to its innovative design. It was the first watch to feature a separate tachymeter and placed it on the bezel, freeing up space on the dial and creating a clean, streamlined appearance. The easy-to-read design was an instant hit and set the Speedmaster apart from the delicate dress watches that were popular at the time. In fact, the Speedmaster was arguably the first mainstream chronograph.
About the Brand
Omega has constantly been defined by its pioneering spirit, demonstrated by its conquests of the oceans as well as space. Since 1965, the Omega Speedmaster has been worn on each of NASA's piloted missions including all six moon landings and many of history’s greatest explorations beyond Earth. Omega also has served as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932. In watchmaking, Omega’s history has been dedicated to a quest for perfection. This legacy continued in 1999 with the launch of the revolutionary Co-Axial escapement and, in 2015, with the world’s first Master Chronometer. Due to being approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), watches with the designation Master Chronometer can withstand a pressure of up to 15'000 Gauss.
