About the Watch
Since the creation of the brand, back in 1860, Heuer specialised in stopwatches and chronographs. Instruments for sports, dashboard timers or chronographs were the core business of the brand. Yet, at the end of the 1950s and at the beginning of the 1960s, the trend for chronograph wristwatches became bigger and bigger and Heuer, already having several watches in the collection, needed to create something sportier, something in line with the current trend for motorsports. Born in 1963, designed by Jack Heuer himself to answer the needs of motorsports pilots, named after one of the most legendary races (the Carrera Panamericana), the recipe was simple: a clean, uncluttered, ultra-legible and reliable instrument to measure time and average speed during races. The gentleman driver’s watch personified. Since then, the Heuer Carrera and the ensuing TAG Heuer Carrera never ceased to evolve, in terms of designs, materials or mechanics, but the main objective was maintained: a tool for racing drivers.
About the Brand
Tag Heuer is a venerable watch brand with roots tracing back to 1860 when Edward Heuer established a family business making simple silver pocket watches. Just nine years later, the company revolutionized the pocket watch by obtaining a patent that eliminated the need for a key, making winding much simpler. But that wasn't enough for Edward Heuer. In 1887, he obtained another patent for the oscillating pinion, which allowed chronographs to start and stop instantaneously. These innovations propelled the company to the forefront of watchmaking and firmly established it as a forward-thinking manufacturer. Over the next century, Tag Heuer continued to innovate in both watchmaking and instrument technology. In the midst of this innovation, ownership of the company changed hands for the first time. Interestingly, the company was known as simply Heuer from 1860 to 1885 before being acquired by Techniques d'Avant Garde (TAG). TAG combined its name with Heuer's to create Tag Heuer. In 1999, LVMH Group of France acquired the brand. Despite changes in ownership, Tag Heuer has always focused on innovation and accurate timekeeping, particularly for chronographs. Racing is at the heart of the Tag Heuer brand, and the company has produced both famous race watches and complicated watches such as the Mikrograph.
