About the Watch

During the late 1960s, there was a vast selection of chronographs available in various styles and purposes, including those for doctors, drivers, astronauts, and sailors. Omega was among the most prolific, featuring chronographs in its Speedmaster and Seamaster collections. In 1969, the brand introduced a handwound chronograph in a peculiar shield-shaped case with the pushers and crown located on top of the watch, called the "bullhead" style. This design was originally intended for race car drivers who desired easy access to the chronograph and minimal pusher interference. It remains unclear why Omega decided to incorporate this style into its nautical-inspired Seamaster line, and the watch did not sell well at the time, perhaps being too avant-garde for the 1960s. Nevertheless, the bullhead has since gained a cult following among vintage collectors due to its rarity, making it even more sought-after.

About the Brand

Omega has constantly been defined by its pioneering spirit, demonstrated by its conquests of the oceans as well as space. Since 1965, the Omega Speedmaster has been worn on each of NASA's piloted missions including all six moon landings and many of history’s greatest explorations beyond Earth. Omega also has served as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932. In watchmaking, Omega’s history has been dedicated to a quest for perfection. This legacy continued in 1999 with the launch of the revolutionary Co-Axial escapement and, in 2015, with the world’s first Master Chronometer. Due to being approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), watches with the designation Master Chronometer can withstand a pressure of up to 15'000 Gauss.
